The Women’s Wing of the Sabha
was started in 1999, with the idea of preserving,
nurturing and promoting the rich traditions of our culture, besides rendering
support to the main activities of the Sabha. In the last eleven years, the Women’s
Wing has been very active in achieving its goal, by involving itself in various
activities of interest.
Annual programmes are conducted, like Pongal, Tamil New Year, Drawing
and
Painting Competitions for Mumbai’s school children, Poster Competition for college
students, Navaratri and Rangoli Competition.
Other events include:
• Cookery Contests
• Flower Arrangement Demonstrations
• Lectures on Mudra Therapy
• Ashtanga Yoga
• Awareness Programs on buying and maintaining silk
• Information on RTI
• A talk on how to face a bereavement in the family
• A panel discussion on whether the activities of a housewife
is considered an economic activity
• Workshop on Skin Care
• Basics of Computers - classes for senior citizens (Sabha
members)
The Women's Wing is headed by Shanmukha Ratna Smt. Lakshmi Ramaswamy who
is a member of
the Managing Committee of the Sabha.
ACTIVITIES OF WOMENS’ WING
During the year 2022-2023 the Women’s Wing
of the Sabha had a variety of programmes and
events for its members. The kolam competition
held on 9th April 2022 and the cookery contest
which was held on 8th January 2023 had
women participating with great enthusiasm.
Kolu was kept on all the nine days of
Navarathri. The health talk on 24.11.2022
by Dr. Nityatara Raina was well appreciated.
At the request of several female members ofthe Sabha, on 28.11.2022 a new chat
session
“Womann ki baatein” was initiated as a forum
for women to get together and exchange
and share their life experiences with other
women. On 11th March 2023 International
Women’s Day was celebrated by honoring
the enterprising Smt. Urmilaben Asher of
‘Gujju Ben Na Nashta’ fame and tabla virtuoso
Smt. Anuradha Pal followed by a rhythm ensemble Stree Shakti.
PROGRAMS FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD)
The Women’s Wing of the Sabha celebrated the International Women’s Day on 8th March
2025 with a musical play, a milestone in Marathi Theatre “Dev Babhali” produced and
presented by Shri. Prasad Kambli.
Written and directed by Shri. Prajakt Deshmukh, it has
won 44 awards till now. The event was supported by
Multiple Alternate Assets Management Company
Limited, New India Assurance Company Limited,
Saraswat Co-operative Bank Limited, Hindustan
Petroleum Corporation Limited and LIC of India Ltd.
Sangeet Dev Babhali is a soulful musical journey
comprising several old and new Abhangs that
transported the audience through a mindful spiritual
journey. Rukmani who came as Lakhubai to help Avali,
wife of Sant Tukaram wanted an answer as to why
her husband Lord Vitthala touched an ordinary lady’s
feet and removed the thorn. The entire story revolves
round the exceptional acting of these two women.
Smt. Jayanti Kathale, founder Managing Director
of Purnabrahma Chain of Restaurants was
honoured on the occasion. A women achiever
with an exceptional record of entrepreneurship
she has set her goals for 500 restaurants across
the world.
