Rajarathinam Pillai Fellowship and Sangeetha Kala Vibhushan Award in
Nadaswaram for Lifetime Contribution
In the 2nd year of this singularly significant initiative of preserving the mangala
Vadhyam Nadaswaram through celebrating the life and times of Nadaswara
Chakravarty Thiru. Thiruvavaduthurai Raja Rathinam Pillai (27.8.1898 –
12.12.1956), the Sabha celebrated the 126th birth anniversary of this genius by
conferring fellowship in his honour to 50 young Nadaswara Vidwans from across
South India with a fellowship grant of Rs. 1,00,000/- per year for three years certain.
It also conferred the Sri Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Kala Vibhushan T. N. Raja
Rathinam Pillai Award for lifetime contribution to Padmashri Shri. T. Seshampatti
Sivalingam on 1st September 2024.
The Nadaswara Thiruvizha was graced by Shri. C. P. Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble
Governor of Maharashtra. It was the first visit of the Hon’ble Governor to the
Sabha. All the educational, religious, cultural South Indian institutions of Mumbai
felicitated the Governor on his appointment which took effect on 31st July 2024.
On 31st August 2024, all the fellowship awardees led by the Nadaswara veteran
Shri. Vyasarpadi Kothandaraman gave a Nadaswaram and Thavil ensemble.

Shri. T. N. Rajarathinam Pillai Fellowship in Nadaswaram
The fellowship in Nadaswaram in honour of Nadaswara Chakravarthy
was set up in the year 2023 coinciding with the 125th birth anniversary of
Shri. T. N. Rajarathinam Pillai. The fellowship is given to 50 young and promising
Nadaswara musicians from all over the country and carries a grant of Rs. 1 lakh
per annum per musician for three years certain. Till date, the Sabha has conferred
the fellowship on 63 young musicians. This year, the fellowship was given for the
first time to 13 youngsters and continued for 37 musicians.
On 1st September 2024, Swami Porappadu was organised at Sri Asthika Samaj,
Bhandarkar Road, Matunga which was celebrating its centenary. Various Kritis
were rendered on Kothandarama, Muruga, Hariharaputra and Guruvayurappan
by the Fellowship awardees and senior Nadaswaram artistes Shri. Vyasarpadi
Kothandaraman, Shri. Kasim and Shri. S. Babu and Seshampatti Shri. T. Sivalingam.
The Lord was taken in a chariot from the temple to the Sabha with the artistes
playing the traditional Mallari. It was a celestial event which showcased the
greatness of this mangala vadhyam.
