Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi
Sangeetha Pracharya Award - 2026
In honour of the Nightingale of India and with a view to recognise and felicitate
practitioners of Fine Arts who take to teaching, moving away from the lucrative
performing arts, the Sabha set up, during the Golden Jubilee year in 2002, this
award. Possibly, this is the only award for which consent was given by the late
Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi to be named after her. The award carries a citation, a cash
prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a big lamp and a shawl. The award is given on the date of
birth of Smt. Subbulakshmi viz 16th September or closer thereto
Dr. Nanditha Ravi is a highly talented and wellestablished
musician. She is the daughter and disciple
of Smt. Rama Ravi, a senior vocalist and musicologist
of renown. Nanditha has been acclaimed as the
torchbearer of the Veena Dhanammal parampara.
She has also been groomed by Shri Bombay S
Ramachandran, former Principal of the Sabha’s
Sangeetha Vidyalaya and Padma Vibhushan Smt. D K
Pattammal.
She holds a Master’s degree in Computer Applications
(MCA) and has worked as a lecturer in the Department
of Computer Science in a reputed institution in
Chennai. Her passion for and love for music were so
dominant that she switched over to full time music.
She earned her Master’s degree in Indian Music at
the University of Madras. She did her doctoral work at
the University of Madras. The Sanskrit Compositions
of Muthuswamy Dikshitar Sishya Parampara was the
title of her dissertation. She is an ‘A’ grade artiste of
AIR. She served as a visiting faculty at Kalakshetra
Foundation, Chennai for over 11 years. Sangeetha
Siksha Peetam was a concept ideated by her to serve
as a platform in promoting the teachings of classical
Carnatic music in a systematic manner. She is the
25th recipient of this award in honour and memory of
Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi.
